Above-the-Fold Decisions

“Above the fold” refers to the part of a page a visitor sees before scrolling. It is prime real estate, because this first glimpse decides whether someone stays or leaves, often within a couple of seconds.

Getting this area right means communicating who you are, what you offer and why it matters quickly and clearly, without cramming in everything at once.

What Belongs Above the Fold

  • A headline that states your core value clearly.
  • A short supporting line that adds detail.
  • A single, obvious call to action.
  • A visual that reinforces the message.

The Myth That People Don't Scroll

People do scroll — but only if the top of the page gives them a reason to. The job of the area above the fold is not to say everything; it is to earn the scroll by making your offer feel relevant.

Avoid the False Bottom

Sometimes a design accidentally looks complete at the fold line, so visitors assume there is nothing more and leave. A small visual cue, such as content peeking above the fold, encourages people to keep going.
