Writing Compelling Testimonials Requests
Happy customers are usually willing to give a testimonial, but a vague request often produces a vague, unusable reply such as 'great service, highly recommend'. How you ask largely determines how useful the answer is.
A little structure makes it easy for the customer and gets you the specific, credible quote you can actually put to work on a sales page or proposal.
Asking the Right Way
The easier you make it, the more and better responses you will get back.
- Ask soon after a clear win, while it is fresh.
- Make it quick — a few short questions, not an essay.
- Prompt for specifics, such as a result or a before-and-after.
- Offer to draft it for their approval if they prefer.
Guiding Without Putting Words in Their Mouth
Gentle prompts help: ask what problem they had, what changed and what they would tell a peer considering you. The answers almost write the testimonial themselves while staying genuinely theirs, which is what makes the final quote believable.
