Updating Your Navigation Menus

Updating Your Navigation Menus

Your navigation menu is how visitors find their way around, so keeping it clear and current is well worth a few minutes now and then. Adding a new page to a menu is usually a simple drag-and-drop task.

This guide shows how menus are structured, how to add or reorder items, and how to avoid the common pitfall of an overcrowded menu.

How Menus Are Built

A menu is a list of links you arrange yourself. Items can sit at the top level or nest underneath a parent as a dropdown.

  • Top-level items are always visible in the bar.
  • Sub-items appear in a dropdown under their parent.
  • Links can point to pages, posts, categories or external sites.
  • The order in the menu editor is the order visitors see.

Adding a New Item

Whenever you create a page you want people to find easily, add it to the relevant menu.

  1. Open the Menus area in your admin settings.
  2. Select the page or enter the link you want to add.
  3. Drag it into position, nesting it if needed.
  4. Save the menu and check it on the live site.
