The Product Backlog Explained

The Product Backlog Explained

The product backlog is the single, ordered list of everything we might build for you -- features, fixes, improvements and ideas. It is the heart of how we plan, and it belongs to your project, not to any one sprint.

Keeping one prioritised list means there is always a clear answer to the question 'what is most important next?', and it gives you a transparent view of what is coming.

What Lives in the Backlog

Anything that could become work for the team has a home here, captured at whatever level of detail we have so far.

  • User stories describing features and needs.
  • Bugs and defects waiting to be addressed.
  • Technical improvements that keep the product healthy.
  • Ideas and 'maybe one day' items kept lower down.

How We Keep It Healthy Together

A backlog is only useful if it is tended regularly, so we groom it with you rather than letting it grow stale.

  1. We refine and clarify upcoming items before each sprint.
  2. We re-order based on value, urgency and your feedback.
  3. We retire items that no longer serve your goals.

If you need a hand with any of this, your Progressive Robot delivery team is ready to help. Raise a ticket from the Support area of your client portal or speak to your account manager and we will guide you through the next steps.
