Tablet and Foldable Support
Not everyone uses your app on a standard phone. Tablets offer far more screen space, and foldable devices change shape in the user's hand. An app designed only for phones can waste this space or behave oddly.
Deciding how far to support these form factors is a sensible early conversation, balanced against how many of your users have them.
Bigger and Folding Screens
Tablets and foldable phones are a growing slice of the market, and they behave differently from a standard handset. A tablet offers room for richer layouts, while a foldable can change size in the user's hand mid-task. An app that ignores them either wastes the extra space or behaves awkwardly, so it is worth deciding early how far you want to embrace these form factors.
Levels of Support
- Scaled: the phone layout simply stretches — functional but not ideal.
- Adapted: layouts use the extra space, for example side-by-side panels on a tablet.
- Optimised: bespoke experiences that take full advantage of large or folding screens.
Foldables in Particular
Foldables can switch between phone and tablet sizes mid-use, and apps must continue smoothly when the device is folded or unfolded. We handle these transitions so the experience never resets or breaks.
