Migrating Subscriptions to a New Provider

Migrating Subscriptions to a New Provider

Switching payment providers when you already have active subscribers is one of the most delicate jobs in payments. Done carelessly, it interrupts billing and loses customers; done well, nobody notices.

This article explains how a safe migration is planned and executed.

The Central Challenge

Your stored card tokens belong to your old provider and do not work with a new one. The cards themselves must be moved across in a secure, provider-to-provider transfer that customers never see.

How a Safe Migration Runs

  1. Recreate your plans and pricing on the new provider.
  2. Arrange a secure transfer of vaulted cards between providers.
  3. Rebuild active subscriptions against the new tokens.
  4. Run both in parallel briefly, then switch billing over.

Managing the Risk

We migrate in stages, reconcile every subscriber, and keep the ability to roll back until we are certain billing is running cleanly on the new provider.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my customers have to re-enter their cards?

Usually not. A proper card migration moves the vaulted details between providers without involving the customer.

Is there a risk of double-billing during the switch?

We plan the cut-over so each subscription bills on exactly one provider, and we reconcile carefully to confirm it.
