Meta Titles and Descriptions That Get Clicks
The meta title and description are the snippet that appears in search results. They do not change your ranking directly, but they heavily influence whether anyone clicks once you appear — and a page that ranks well but is never clicked might as well not rank at all.
Treat them as a tiny advert for the page: specific, honest and written to earn the click rather than simply describe the URL.
Writing the Title
Aim for roughly fifty to sixty characters so it is not cut off in results. Lead with the most important words and include the term people actually search for, because matching their wording reassures them they are in the right place.
Writing the Description
The description has around 150 characters to expand on the promise and add a reason to click. Make it match the page — a misleading snippet wins the click but loses the visitor seconds later, which search engines notice.
- Say what the reader will get.
- Use the search term where it fits naturally.
- End with a gentle nudge to act.
