Handling Partial and Split Payments

Handling Partial and Split Payments

Sometimes a single order needs to be paid in more than one piece — a deposit now and the balance later, or a payment shared across two cards. These are partial and split payments.

This article explains the common patterns and where they are useful.

Partial Payments

A partial payment takes part of the total now and the rest later. Deposits for bookings or bespoke work are the classic example, securing commitment without the full amount up front.

Split Payments

A split payment divides one order across multiple methods or recipients. This is common in group purchases and in marketplaces that pay several sellers from one basket.

  • Deposit plus balance for high-value or custom orders.
  • Splitting a bill across more than one card.
  • Routing parts of a payment to different sellers.

What to Watch

Partial and split flows add complexity to refunds and reconciliation. We design them so your reporting stays clear and every piece is traceable.
