Biometric Login: Face ID and Fingerprint

Biometric login lets users sign in with their face or fingerprint instead of typing a password. It is faster, feels modern, and — done correctly — is more secure than a password people tend to reuse.

It is one of the simplest ways to remove friction from your app while improving security at the same time.

Why Offer Biometrics at All

Passwords are the weakest link in most apps: people reuse them, forget them and type them slowly on small keyboards. Biometric login removes that friction while improving security, because a face or fingerprint cannot be guessed or copied from a leaked password list. For users it simply feels like the app knows them; for you it means fewer abandoned logins and safer accounts.

How It Actually Works

Your app never sees the user's face or fingerprint. The device performs the check in dedicated secure hardware and simply tells the app whether it succeeded. Biometric data never leaves the phone.

Good Practice We Follow

  • Always offer a fallback, such as a passcode, in case biometrics fail.
  • Use biometrics to unlock a stored credential, not as the only line of defence.
  • Respect the user's choice if they prefer not to enable it.
