What Is UX and UI?

What Is UX and UI?

UX (User Experience) is about how easy and pleasant something is to use, while UI (User Interface) is about how it looks — the buttons, colours, layout and typography people see.

They matter because together they decide whether visitors find what they need and enjoy doing so. Great UX with poor UI feels clunky; beautiful UI with poor UX looks nice but frustrates.

An Everyday Analogy

Think of a car. The UI is the dashboard — how the dials and controls look and feel. The UX is the whole experience of driving it: comfortable, intuitive and safe, or stressful and confusing.

  • UI = the visual design and controls.
  • UX = the overall ease and flow.
  • Good UX is often invisible — it just works.
  • Both rely on research and testing.

Why It Matters to You

Investing in UX and UI directly improves how well your site or app performs.

  • Higher conversions when journeys are clear.
  • Fewer support queries from confused users.
  • Stronger brand perception from a polished look.
  • Better accessibility for a wider audience.

If you need a hand with any of this, your Progressive Robot delivery team is ready to help. Raise a ticket from the Support area of your client portal or speak to your account manager and we will guide you through the next steps.
