Too Many Redirects Error
A 'too many redirects' error means your browser is being bounced from one address to another in an endless loop and gives up. The page never loads because it never reaches a final destination.
This is usually caused by a conflict between two redirect rules and is fixable once we find where the loop begins. This guide explains the common causes.
What Causes the Loop
Redirect loops nearly always come from conflicting rules.
- HTTP and HTTPS rules fighting each other.
wwwand non-wwwredirects conflicting.- A security setting and a site setting disagreeing.
- A plugin redirect clashing with a server rule.
What You Can Check
A couple of quick checks help us narrow it down.
- Clear your browser cookies for the site and retry.
- Note whether it happens on every page or one section.
- Recall any recent change to HTTPS or domain settings.
- Try a private/incognito window.
How We Fix It
We can trace the redirect chain, find the conflicting rules, and set a single, clean redirect so pages load correctly. This is usually a quick fix once we can see the loop. Raise a ticket with the affected address.
