Plugin or Update Caused an Error

Updates keep your website secure and working well, but occasionally an update introduces a conflict that breaks a feature or a page. This is a normal hazard of running modern software and is almost always reversible.

The key is not to panic or make further changes. This guide explains how to identify the culprit and what we will do to put things right.

How Conflicts Happen

Most update-related errors come from these situations.

  • Two plugins that no longer work well together.
  • A plugin that is incompatible with the new core version.
  • A theme that relied on old behaviour now changed.
  • A custom tweak overwritten by the update.

What to Do First

These steps protect your site and help us diagnose faster.

  1. Stop applying any further updates.
  2. Note exactly which feature broke and when.
  3. Record the names of anything updated recently.
  4. Take a screenshot of any error shown.

How We Fix It

We can restore from a backup taken before the update, roll back the specific component, or apply a patched version. We then test in a safe environment before re-applying updates, so the same conflict does not recur.
