PDF Will Not Download

PDF Will Not Download

When a PDF link does nothing, opens a blank tab, or shows an error, visitors cannot get the document they need — a brochure, price list or form. The problem usually lies with the file, the link, or the viewer's browser settings.

These issues are generally quick to resolve. This guide helps you work out where the problem sits and what to do.

Likely Causes

A PDF that will not download tends to have one of these causes.

  • The file was moved, renamed or deleted.
  • The link points to the wrong address.
  • A browser setting blocking automatic downloads.
  • The file is very large and times out.

What to Check

These steps help identify the cause.

  1. Right-click the link and choose 'Save link as'.
  2. Try a different browser or device.
  3. Note any error message that appears.
  4. Check whether other downloads on the site work.

How We Fix It

If the file is missing we can restore or re-upload it and correct the link. For very large files we can optimise them so they download reliably. Send us the page and the link that fails and we will put it right.

If you need a hand with any of this, your Progressive Robot delivery team is ready to help. Raise a ticket from the Support area of your client portal or speak to your account manager and we will guide you through the next steps.
