Pages vs Posts: When to Use Each
WordPress offers two main content types out of the box: pages and posts. They look similar in the editor, but they behave differently and serve different purposes.
Choosing the right one keeps your site organised and helps both visitors and search engines understand your content.
What Pages Are For
Pages hold your evergreen, structural content — the information that rarely changes and forms the backbone of your site.
- Home, About and Contact pages.
- Services or product overview pages.
- Legal pages such as privacy and terms.
What Posts Are For
Posts are time-based entries, usually shown newest first and grouped into categories. They are ideal for content you publish on an ongoing basis.
- Blog articles and news updates.
- Case studies and announcements.
- Anything you want to organise by date or topic.
| Feature | Pages | Posts |
