Editing Content with the Block Editor (Gutenberg)
The modern WordPress editor, known as the Block Editor or Gutenberg, lets you build pages from individual blocks — a paragraph, a heading, an image, a button and so on. Each block can be moved, styled and reused.
This guide covers the basics so you can confidently make day-to-day edits without worrying about breaking the layout.
Working with Blocks
Click the + button to add a new block and choose its type. Select any existing block to reveal its toolbar and settings.
- Add a block with the
+button. - Type or paste your content.
- Use the toolbar to format text or align media.
- Drag blocks to reorder them on the page.
- Click Update or Publish to save.
Handy Tips
- Paste from Word as plain text to avoid messy formatting.
- Use heading blocks (H2, H3) for structure, not bold text.
- Preview on mobile before publishing.
Saving and Undoing
WordPress autosaves drafts as you work and keeps a revision history, so you can roll back to an earlier version if a change does not work out. Nothing goes live until you press Publish or Update.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my changes appear instantly?
Yes, once you click Update the live page reflects your edits straight away, though caching may delay this by a minute.
What if I prefer the old editor?
A classic-editor plugin can restore the older interface, but we generally recommend learning the block editor as it is the supported standard.
