Favicon, App Icons and Touch Icons Explained

Favicon, App Icons and Touch Icons Explained

These are the small icons that represent your site in browser tabs, bookmarks and on phone home screens. They are tiny but matter: they are part of how recognisable and trustworthy your brand looks.

There is a small family of icon sizes and formats needed to cover every device properly, which is why we set them up carefully.

Where Each One Appears

  • Favicon — the icon in the browser tab and bookmarks.
  • Touch / app icons — shown when someone saves your site to their phone home screen.
  • Tile icons — used by some operating systems and platforms.

Why Get It Right

A crisp, correctly sized icon looks professional everywhere. A missing or blurry one makes a site feel unfinished and can even reduce trust at the moment someone bookmarks you.

What We Need From You

A high-resolution, square version of your logo or mark is all we need. We generate the full set of sizes and formats from it.

If you need a hand with any of this, your Progressive Robot delivery team is ready to help. Raise a ticket from the Support area of your client portal or speak to your account manager and we will guide you through the next steps.
