Copywriting for Digital Marketing

Digital copywriting writes words that persuade, inform, and motivate action across ads, emails, landing pages, social posts, and web pages. Effective digital copy is clear, specific, benefit-focused, and written for the reader — not the brand. It respects the reader's time, anticipates objections, and creates enough desire or urgency to prompt action.

Copywriting Principles

  • Lead with benefit, not feature: "Save 2 hours a week" (benefit) beats "Advanced automation engine" (feature)
  • Specificity: Specific claims are more credible than vague ones. "Reduce churn by 23%" beats "Improve retention"
  • Know the reader: What do they want? What do they fear? What objections will they have? Write directly to their situation.
  • One idea per piece: Every ad, email subject line, or headline should communicate one clear idea — not everything at once
  • Strong CTA: Tell people exactly what to do next. "Download the free guide" beats "Click here"

Formats

  • Email subject lines: curiosity, benefit, or urgency — A/B test relentlessly
  • Ad copy: hook + benefit + CTA — tight character limits require extreme precision
  • Landing page: AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action) — headline captures attention; body builds desire; CTA converts
