Accessible Colour Contrast in Your Brand Palette
Colour contrast is the difference in brightness between text and its background. If it is too low, text becomes hard or impossible to read — especially for older visitors or those with visual impairments.
Good contrast is both an accessibility requirement and simply good design: everyone reads more comfortably when text stands out clearly.
The Standards to Meet
Accessibility guidelines (WCAG) set minimum contrast ratios. Normal text should reach a ratio of at least 4.5:1 against its background; larger text can be a little lower.
- 4.5:1 for standard body text.
- 3:1 for large headings.
- Clear focus and link styles that do not rely on colour alone.
Working With Your Brand
Brand colours sometimes fail contrast on their own. We create accessible combinations — adjusting shades or pairing them carefully — so your identity stays intact and your content stays legible.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will accessible colours ruin our brand look?
No. We keep your brand recognisable while ensuring text combinations are readable, usually by adjusting how colours are paired rather than changing them.
