Migrating Backups to a New Provider

Migrating Backups to a New Provider

Sooner or later you may change hosting or backup providers, perhaps for cost, features or reliability. Moving your backup history safely matters — you do not want a gap in protection or to lose older recovery points during the switch.

This article explains how we migrate backups without leaving you exposed.

How We Migrate Safely

The guiding rule is never to remove the old backups until the new ones are proven.

  1. Set up and test the new backup destination.
  2. Run both old and new backups in parallel for a period.
  3. Verify and test restores from the new provider.
  4. Only then retire the old backups per your retention policy.

Watch the History

Older backups often cannot simply be copied across in a compatible form. We decide which history to migrate and which to retain at the old provider until it expires.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will there be a gap in protection during the move?

No — we run both systems in parallel so you are always covered throughout the migration.
