Blacklists: Checking and Getting Delisted

Email blacklists are databases of domains and IP addresses known for sending spam. If your domain or sending server lands on one, your legitimate email can be blocked or filtered by recipients who consult that list — often without you realising why.

Knowing how to check for a listing and how to get removed is an essential part of protecting your email deliverability.

How You End Up Listed

Listings usually follow a clear cause, and identifying it is the first step to removal.

  • A compromised account sending spam without your knowledge.
  • Sending to old or purchased lists with many complaints.
  • Missing authentication that makes your mail look suspicious.
  • Sharing an IP with another sender who misbehaved.

Checking and Getting Delisted

Removal is usually possible once the underlying problem is fixed.

  1. Check your domain and IP against the major blacklists.
  2. Identify and fix the cause, such as a hacked account.
  3. Submit a delisting request to each list that flags you.
  4. Monitor afterwards to confirm the listing is gone.
