Accessibility Testing Tools
Automated testing tools scan your pages and flag many accessibility issues in seconds. They are an excellent first line of defence and a great way to catch regressions as a site grows.
That said, no tool can find everything. Automated checks typically catch only a portion of issues, so they complement — rather than replace — human testing.
What Automated Tools Do Well
They excel at the measurable, rule-based checks that would be tedious to verify by hand.
- Detecting missing alt text and form labels.
- Measuring colour contrast ratios.
- Spotting invalid or duplicated markup.
What They Cannot Judge
A tool can confirm alt text exists, but not whether it is meaningful. It cannot tell if the reading order makes sense or if a custom widget actually works. That requires people.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can we just rely on an automated scan?
No. Automated tools are valuable but catch only part of the picture. We pair them with manual and assistive-technology testing.
