Accessibility Statements: What to Include
An accessibility statement is a public page explaining how accessible your site is, what standard it aims for, and how to get help if something does not work. It demonstrates good faith and gives users a route to report problems.
For public-sector organisations it is a legal requirement, and for everyone else it is a mark of a responsible, transparent business.
What a Good Statement Covers
A useful statement is honest and specific rather than a vague promise of accessibility.
- The standard you aim for, usually WCAG 2.2 AA.
- Any known issues and your plans to fix them.
- How people can contact you for help or alternatives.
- The date it was last reviewed.
Keep It Current
An accessibility statement should be revisited whenever the site changes significantly. An out-of-date statement can do more harm than good by claiming compliance you no longer have.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where should the statement live?
Somewhere easy to find, typically linked from the footer of every page so anyone who hits a barrier can quickly find out how to get help or an alternative.
